I use Exepedia since it first appeared on he Internet, and I was never disappointed. Even now I am planing to look through their Kuala Lumpur Hotels to try and find a place to spend my New Year's Eve. I personally think they are doing a great job!

John, I absolutely agree - there is no "one size fits all" answer. Each hotel needs to determine what works best for their market segment, competitive set, destination, etc. The fundamental challenge is that in many destinations, the business climate has changed - perhaps permanently for some - the corporate and group business segments may have reset with new baselines. Expedia is not evil, Choice is not evil - they, as well as the rest of the hotel industry and Online Travel Agencies, are attempting to establish a new equilibrium. The Expedia - Choice fallout is a fascinating case study - we will need to see what develops.

I think another important question to ask is... "do the resources required to manage direct B2C distribution channels outweigh the resources required to manage Expedia as a distribution partner?" The answer to this question will determine the best response (it's likely not a black and white answer).
